What Makes Them “Hot?” – These minuscule guys zoom around, bump into things, make cute minuscule sounds, then zoom off into a different direction.
What Should I Look For? – The Zhu Zhu Pets Hamsters are the main attraction, but they also have a ton of accessories (such as a hamster wheel and hamster ball) which when combined create a big “hamster city” for the minuscule fur-balls to bounce around in.
Availability? – Scarce. These are the “Tickle Me Elmo’s” of 2009, but some on-line retailers still have them in stock.
2. Transformers 2 Toys
What Are They? – Based on the blockbuster movie which itself is based on the old cartoon series/toy commercial featuring giant robots battling on earth. Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last 5 years, it’s likely you already know exactly what these are!
What Makes Them “Hot?” – Megan Fox and giant robot battles capture the imaginations of both small boys and big boys.
What Should I Look For? – Optimus Prime, any of the “Combiner” transformers robot sets, such as Devastator, and the ultra cool Transformers Movie 2 ultimate Bumblebee which lights up, makes sounds, and even moves.
Availability? – Supplies are healthy, but some of the more sought after characters (Optimus Prime, Bumblebee) may be harder to find.
3. Twilight New Moon Dolls
What Are They? – an additional one hot movie franchise, this time about vampires.
What Makes Them “Hot?” – Robert Pattinson and vampire battles capture the imaginations of both younger and older girls alike.
What Should I Look For? – Edward, Jacob, and Bella. The traditional 3 characters featured on the Twilight New Moon movie posters (and every other piece of merchandise.)
Availability? – A few different lines exists for the Twilight fans; Specialty maker Neca figures for the enthusiast, Tonner Doll enterprise dolls for the collector, and a Matell Barbie line for everyone! The Barbie line being the easiest to find, by sheer ubiquity of Mattel’s products.
4. Chuck My Talking Truck
What Is It? – A exciting red and yellow Tonka dump truck with a smiley face.
What Makes It “Hot?” – Chuck has over 40 phrases and sounds but the real entertainment value comes from built in sensors that make him drive over to your child when they call!
What Should I Look For? – There’s only one Chuck My Talking Truck, although he does have a few non-interactive friends you may want to get for your child as well
Availability? – Should be relatively easy to get a hold of a Chuck for Christmas.
5. Liv Fashion Dolls
What Are They? – Barbie dolls with more out of the box options.
What Makes Them “Hot?” – These girls got style and they’re not afraid to convert it! Interchangeable hair styles, “real” plastic eyes, and 14 points of articulation for a wide range of poses give Barbie a run for her money.
What Should I Look For? – “Bratz” meets “Barbie” with less attitude.
Availability? – Surprisingly well stocked.
6. 2009 Barbie Holiday Doll
What Is It? – A new special minuscule edition Barbie doll.
What Makes It “Hot?” – The Holiday Edition Barbies all the time have a minuscule something extra in the information and quality agency which sets themselves apart from the standard Barbie line. Not to mention the 2009 Holiday edition is extra special in that it not only celebrates the 2009 holiday season, but the 50th anniversary of the Barbie doll as well!
What Should I Look For? – fancy keepsake display packaging with a holiday twist.
Availability? – There should be more than sufficient of these beauties to go around this year.
7. Bakugan 7 in 1 Maxus Dragonoid
What Is It? – Transformers meets strategy card games meets Japanese anime.
What Makes It “Hot?” – for any kid (or adult) that plays or watches Bakugan, the Maxus Dragonoid is a must have. 6 “traps” and one “warrior” consolidate to form a fearsome robot like mammal not unlike the Transformers Devastator. The cool part is that both the combined form robot and it’s private pieces can be used in the card game as well!
What Should I Look For? – A Big red Bakugan “robot” with a dragon’s head.
Availability? – Good. A salutary output run this year has put a salutary whole of this Bakugan on the market.
8. Elmo Tickle Hands
What Are They? – Big furry red gloves for toddlers.
What Makes Them “Hot?” – The right handed glove vibrates when located on any surface, causing a “tickle” effect.
What Should I Look For? – Big furry red gloves with Elmo’s face on it.
Availability? – Healthy. A decent seller but not quite as in interrogate as the traditional Tickle Me Elmo that started the craze.
9. Nintendo Dsi
What Is It? – The next evolution of Nintendo’s premiere hand held video game system.
What Makes It “Hot?” – Built in cameras and sound recorders/processors open up a whole new size in portable gaming.
What Should I Look For? – The same ageement box of the traditional Ds, just with a lowercase “i” attached.
Availability? – Decent. interrogate has not (yet) skyrocketed as with it’s big brother, the Nintendo Wii.
10. Apple iTouch
What Is It? – The music player to have, period.
What Makes It “Hot?” – More than just a music player, the 3rd generation iTouch adds up to 64gb of storehouse space for music, movies, apps, games, and much more.
What Should I Look For? – Apples signature less is more aesthetic, in touchscreen form.
Availability? – Good. No foreseen shortages of the iTouch for this arrival holiday season.
